How to reduce spam with Spam Filters

Turn on spam filtering, send spam to a separate folder and always allow or block specific senders.

cPanel uses Apache SpamAssassin™ to give each incoming email a spam score. You decide what happens to messages that score too high.

cPanel › Email › Spam Filters

  1. Log in to cPanel.
  2. In the Email section, click Spam Filters.
  3. Turn on Process New Emails and Mark them as Spam.
  4. Turn on Move New Spam to a Separate Folder (Spam Box). Suspected spam goes to a Spam folder instead of your inbox, so you can still check it.

Fine-tune your filter

  • Spam Threshold Score: lower numbers catch more spam but may catch real email too. Start with the default and adjust if needed.
  • Whitelist (Emails Always Allowed): add customers or suppliers whose email should never be marked as spam.
  • Blacklist (Emails Never Allowed): add senders you never want to hear from.

Automatically Delete New Spam (Auto-Delete) permanently deletes messages over your threshold. Only turn it on once you’re happy that real email isn’t being caught.

Can’t find it? Type the tool’s name into the search box at the top of cPanel.
